Department of Dermatology

Preah Kossamak Hospital
Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia

The Department of Dermatology in Preah Kossamak Hospital was established in 2005. Initially housed in one room near the general entrance, in 2007 a new building was constructed, inaugurated 2008 and equipped, mainly with financial aid from German donors. Increasing numbers of patients and staff required an extension of the existing building which, with German and British support, could be inaugurated in early 2014.

Today, the department includes a front desk, six consultation rooms, treatment facilities, an operation theatre, an inpatient ward as well as teaching rooms, library and staff quarters. By patients, other hospitals and health insurance considered to be a referral institution for the treatment of rare, severe and disabling dermatological conditions, the department can particularly reflect upon extensive experience in pediatric dermatology.

The department serves also as a training center for under- and postgraduate students as well as physicians from all over Cambodia who want to improve their knowledge of dermatology. Also trainees and interns from abroad come to the department regularly to upgrade their experience in practicing dermatology in a resource-poor country. In order to maintain quality and to keep the level of physicians up to date, regular visits by experts (mainly from Germany, Switzerland, France and the US) are organized who provide teaching and support in the consultation.
